For a number of years now the Concours Rules have had an anomaly and appear in Rules 2 and 3.
The runner up of the appropriate Series is upgraded to winner and has entry into the Master Class but has already been out pointed by the Overall winner (The anomaly)
After much discussion and debate to rectify this, the committee felt an alteration to the rules was necessary to correct the anomaly and the full rules follow below with the old rules (underlined) to be deleted and new rules (in Red) to be added.
These new rules will apply for the next National in 2008 but do not affect the class winners from the 2007 National entering the Master class for 2008.

Concours Rules
Judging will be carried out in accordance with the SAOC Judging Criteria, Judges’ Notes and Judging Form and the Judges’ decision will be final.
1. Non-standard class: - to include cars which have been modified mechanically, bodily or with variations to colour or interior. Entry to this class to be the choice of the owner. Non-standard class winner will not be eligible for the Overall Winners Award or entry into the Masters Class.
2. Masters Class: - class winners’ automatically qualify for inclusion into the Masters Class for the following year. After one year save for the winner of the Master Class all cars must re-enter the main competition. The winner of the Masters Class shall only be eligible to re – enter the Masters Class the following year.
3. Overall Winner: - does not take the appropriate class award for series. This is awarded to the runner-up in the appropriate series and, at the discretion of the organisers, a new runner up is appointed being the car placed third in the series.

Rule 2. Masters Class: - the overall winner and class winners' aside from Non-Standard, Class 7 and the runners up as described in rule 3, automatically qualify for inclusion into the Masters Class for the following year. After one year save for the winner of the Master Class all cars must re-enter the main competition. The winner of the Masters Class shall only be eligible to re - enter the Masters Class the following year and thereafter must re-enter the main competition.

Rule 3. Overall Winner: - The overall winner is the car achieving the highest score in any class aside from non-standard Class 7. The overall winner does not take the appropriate class award for series. This is awarded to the runner-up in the appropriate series and, at the discretion of the organisers, a new runner up is appointed being the car placed third in the series.
4. Best Amateur Restoration: - Entrants who wish their car to be considered for this award must signify this on their entry form or notify the organisers. The criteria for entry to this award are that the car must have been assembled personally by its owner and that the person must be the owner of the car at the time of this competition taking place. Entrants will be asked for proof of eligibility and a vehicle will only be able to win the Best Amateur Restoration Award once. The basis of marking will be the same as for the main Concours awards, but if there is any particular aspect of the restoration which the entrant feels requires special consideration, this should be made known to the judges, although the judges discretion and ultimate decision will be final.
5. Any Sunbeam Alpine attending the National Meeting shall be eligible to win the Members' Choice award irrespective of whether it is entered into the formal concours competition.
6. The perpetual awards referred to in these rules and attendant notes and which comprise the Classic Car Trophy, the Rolls Royce Heritage Trust award, the SAOC Club trophy, the SAOC shield, the Classic Car Developments award, the Mike Lake Memorial Trophy and those in clause 8 of the Judging Criteria shall remain the property of SAOC and shall be retained by the winner of the award until the next National meeting when they must be returned. In the event that the winner will not be attending the next National he or she must make arrangements to return the award to the National Organising Committee or SAOC committee prior to the event.
7. In order to be eligible for any award other than the Members Choice award a car entered into the concours competition must be owned by a member of the SAOC.

Judging Criteria
1. Judges will be appointed by the organising committee. Judges are to be entirely independent and have no direct interest or involvement in any car to be judged. It is also recommended that members of the organising committee do not enter their cars in the competition.
2. At the discretion of the organising committee, an assistant to the judges may be appointed to give technical advice on originality if requested. Such appointee shall not have a car entered in any class and shall take no direct part in the judging.
3. Judges are to assess vehicles in accordance with the standardised Judging Form and with regard to the Judges Notes. Marks will be awarded for exterior and interior condition, underside, boot, engine compartment and originality.
4. Exhibits must be in a condition whereby all items to be judged are readily accessible or alternatively the person in charge of the vehicle must be present during the judging.
5. The provision of runners’ up prizes is to be at the discretion of the organising committee.
6. The Concours Entry Form and Rules are to be incorporated into National Meeting Booking Forms and entry to the Concours is to be made with the National Booking although this does not exclude booking at the event itself.
7. No variation of these rules Concours Classes or Perpetual awards is to be undertaken without authorisation from the SAOC committee save that at the discretion of the organising committee a class for visiting classic cars may be incorporated, but such a class and any trophy provided for it shall be unique to the organising committees’ event and shall not be perpetual in nature.
