Hi,
My name is Daniel, Bousval, Belgium. I bought in June an Alpine V 1967, plate VEV 854 E, chassis B3950156866TOD, green forest. After a week's holiday in UK (Cotswolds, Beaulieu, Kent and ...Dover) with this super car we came back to Belgium. Unfortunately after 3000 kms(!) "Claribelle" made a HGF.
The car is now repaired but I have still a problem. The engine is an Holbay, two Weber carburators without air filters. And That's the problem ! Sad
What kind of filters to fit the Webers (DCOE with trumpets) ? KN ? Ram FLo ?
Because of the rigidity system on the left there is no place to put two filters.
Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?

Hi Sunbelge

I have run 2 Holbay engines without air filters and not had any problems. Maybe I was just lucky. However to improve the performance (and the sound) you will need to fit a set of intake trumpets. The original ones can be shortened and silver soldered back in.

Also, if I remember correctley (it was a long time ago) the carbs needs re-jetting from standard, if a filter is not used. Maybe some else can confirm this and what size?

Thank' s a lot for your answer. Two problems without filters: the dust and the noise. I think that I have maybe a solution coming from the States: a 45 DCOE clamp on velocity stack filter. We'll see ???

Daniel

Hi ,I run my Alpine with twin 40s,and I have fitted them with Pipercross foam air filters. You will need to have the short ram-pipes and you will also need to trim the filters down to fit.If you would like me to e-mail you a picture of my installation that will not be a problem.

Regards.Bob.

Bob. Put the picture on here so we can all see it. Thanks

Here are a couple of pics that show the installation on my car.You have to use the short trumpets and cut down the filters to suit each intake.I use cable ties to keep them on the intakes.I bought these filters some 5 or 6 years ago,but they should be available from someone like Demon Tweeks or even Pipercross themselves.

Better than a handfull of gravel down your Webers!

Though I ran my old Lotus Super Seven with unfiltered twin 40s poking out of the bonnet for 22 years (lots of miles!) with no problems.

I'm sticking with those old Strombergs on mine, not ideal, but that's what the old girl came with and they work... Rolling Eyes
