If anyone needs spare keys I am selling some on behalf of the Rootes Archive Centre Trust. All proceeds will go to towards the upkeep of the Archive Centre.

Lots of numbers from many ranges available - some of them even have Rootes on them.
Ranges available: FA, FK, FP, FR, FS, FT, ST, SR, RM, RR, MRN, KTN, VM, KA, NC, NND, FMD, NF, YFB, NG, R, SC. plus a few odd keys in other ranges.

Regards

The ignition barrel will be stamped with the numbers but not the range, although this will help. The door handles usually have the key number stamped on the part that the lock actually turns - so you may not need to pop the barrels out.
The door key is usually the same as the ignition - although in 40-50 years something has probably changed - I know mine have.
Not sure about the boot lock - not attempted to dismantle one....yet

In answer to Matt's post, I've just dismantled a boot lock to see if/where the key number is stamped, because the one on my Series 3 is misbehaving, and I happened to have a complete spare mechanism, but without a key. However, while I got it apart, unfortunately it only gives half the answer.

First remove the whole boot catch mechanism, (2 x small nuts and 2 x Phillips screws) from the car unless yours, like mine, was a spare from the "useful bits" box. The chrome plated part holding the lock is rivetted to the catch mechanism, so drill out the 2 x rivets to remove it and the lock will drop out. Sticking out of the back of the lock is the adjustable threaded rod with locknuts on it, that trips the catch mechanism. Unscrew this from the lock. The inside parts of the lock are some grey alloy (MazaK?) and the projecting rear part into which the rod was screwed is detachable, although it doesn't look like it and I only found this by trial and error. It is a push fit onto the back of the lock barrel and mine was quite tight but came off with a big pair of pliers. The inner lock barrel then wiggled out of the front of the chrome sleeve that forms the push button. Reassembly is (or would be) the reverse, as they say in Haynes.

Mine has 883 stamped on the inner barrel, but not the letter series. It came from a scrapped 1965 series V, so if anyone happens to know what series keys Rootes were using then, my efforts may not have been in vain, and my Series 3 would benefit from a functioning lock (assuming I haven't busted the thing in the process).

Steve
There is NO NEED to drill out the rivets even to extract the barrel, the number is stamped on the mounting bracket

DOH! You are right, the 883 is there, but it's on the inside face of the bracket, that would have been invisible when bolted into the car. Therefore, if you have a non functioning boot lock, you still have to remove the lock mechanism from the car to find out the number. It is stamped next to the part number but still lacks the letter series, so unless you know to look for it and what it means, you would still waste your time taking it to bits as I did. Thanks for the information - I think it will help a number of people in the same situation.

Anyone know which letter series I need please? My Series 3's ignition key will go into the lock but won't turn. It is in the FT series - is this standard for Alpines? Thanks.

Steve
If the number is 883 its an FS key.
Series 3-5 only used FS and FP on the boot lock and 883 is out of the FP range.
