Can anyone help I have a series 5 1968 alpine it has a poor idle, It had this when I bought it a month ago. So far I have fitted an electronic ignition since the lucas distributor needed a new bush so I replaced the whole thing this was no help.
since then I have rebuilt the strombergs
new diaphrams, new metering needles ,jet orafices,float needle valves all new rubbers and throttle spindles.
I have checked the comprestion all ok.
it still idles badly some times dies but if I increase the slow idle it idles at about 1500 but still a bit lumpy.
what do I do next ?

A bad idle can be caused by air leaks, probably at the manifold to head if you have had the carbs off and used new gaskets. Also check the crankcase ventilation valve if it is fitted. Just block it and see if it runs better. Are the throttle spindles worn?
