Hi Steve

Thanks for the email, I will try and attend if I can, however you will have to excuse the morris minor as my mini van is currently in bits and well my alpine is about 6 years away from being roadworthy.

I just thought I would ask, if anyone knows the best place to buy panels for the cheapest prices? as my car will be needing almost every panel replacing

Cheers

On the club website there is a section called LINKS where you can find the main suppliers of parts. I know they sell many body panels, but I have not bought any myself. I have luckily avoided cars requiring major panel replacement, and for patching I always make my own small repair panels from locally sourced (often free!) scraps.

Some panels, such as the valence can cost over £250, so this can make restoration very unattractive from a cost point of view. Be wary of cheap panels too, they may not be accurate, and may require great skill to fit properly.

Dont miss the Alpine Spares day on May 11th (Coventry Memorial Park). Its a feast of parts!

Hi, I'm Justin Harrington, currently custodian of 9203RW, one of the ex-works Le Mans cars. I've just re-joined the SAOC having (unforgivably) allowed my membership to lapse on two previous occasions. This time, I'll try not to let it happen again.

Hi all - Just about to take the plunge and buy my dream car (finally...a real Bond car!). Sadly doing so thanks to a legacy from my Dad who died recently. Currently gripped my a real sense of "carpe diem", hence buying an Alpine. Off to look at a couple over the weekend, but if anyone has one that they are trying to sell then I have the cash burning a hole in my pocket.

One question, is an Alpine going to be a reasonable car to use on a regular basis, i.e. not just summer. I commute from Stroud to Ascot (head up Monday, back on Thurs/Fri) so it would be doing about 10K miles per annum, nearly all Motorway or A road.

I've ruled out an MG having seen three of them broken down by the side of the road on the first nice weekend of the year!

Looking forward to joining the club.

Cheers

Nick

Good day to all, my son and I decieded to start a project. As you can guess, it wasnt a go kart or wood working one, but a Sunbeam Alpine. Why Alpine, well it was close, it was almost complete and it along with a donor car was only 600. So we jumped right in.

Hi All
Joined the club last week. Have just bought a bodged, Mint Green?, Series 2, no major faults but lots of jobs to do. Anyone know if the rear shockers from the later cars will fit a Series 2?

Hi

I have a mostly reovated 1965 Alpine I have owned for a year having driven it topless (the car not me) from Bristol to Southend last year. Although body work and engine all renovated the interior and roof are not great. But they will be. I have many quesions to ask..

No major faults? Sad Ha, thats a good one. Just found out it needs both front brake calipers replacing as the rubber boot's are shot and this has caused corrosion. Rear hydraulic dampers are knackered as well so need replaced.
Now here's a funny thing it seems to have lost the anti-roll bar! Ran out of petrol on Bank Holiday Monday, gauge said two gallons ( was told this may be because of bas in underside of tank) but it was WRONG and battery gave up whe trying to restart it as well so got a tow. Bad idea as the guy tied the rope to the bar didn't he. The bar was there when I took rope off but ain't there now. So I have ordered a replacement from Sunbeam Supreme (excellent supplier BTW, good prices, will get calipers and exhaust from them when money available).
Running much better since I fitted new points, condenser and rotor arm but it's still a bitch to start as the bodged twin carb setup only has choke on one carb.....mind you a new 72 A/hr battery helps as well Wink
I temporarily connected a one megohm potentiometer between the sender and gauge and I was able to alter the gauge reading. When it is nearly down to two gallons again I will adjust pot. to make it read zero and then fit a resistor of appropriate value in-line.
